MEDIA RELEASE
The Maketa for Sheriff re-election team was recently notified that Jake Shirk has extended an invitation for a debate. Sheriff Maketa welcomes the opportunity and would be happy to participate in a debate. Although Sheriff Maketa has not received any correspondence from Jake Shirk regarding an invitation, our campaign has been planning on coordinating debates for the mid to late July timeframe. Obviously, since it is campaign season, Sheriff Maketa's time is limited considering he is leading an organization of over 630 employees, campaigning for re-election and continuing his work on local and national boards that benefit our community. He has been spending a tremendous amount of time walking neighborhoods, directly speaking with registered voters. So far, our campaign team has contacted nearly 5,000 active Republican voters and the feedback is very encouraging. This has proven to be a great opportunity for Sheriff Maketa and his team to hear first hand the concerns of our citizens and exchange ideas on a personal level. There is no better forum to exchange ideas with the voters than face to face interaction.
Of greater concern, it has been brought to the attention of our campaign committee Jake Shirk's candidacy may be in question, due to his alleged violation of FEDERAL LAW concerning various provisions of the Hatch Act. If this matter has not been resolved, we believe it may be very problematic and bring into question the legality of his candidacy.
Once all details and dates for the debates are confirmed, all media outlets will be notified.
